Script Summary: Kill all media by pressing [ESC]

Version: 0.19

License: public domain

Hey. Wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world?

In celebration of the 2010 World Cup, a certain forum thought it would be funny to embed a looping .swf of a vuvuzela.
As oft before, I wished desperately for a browser plugin to kill Flash with a keypress.

And who hasn't been irritated and embarrassed by embedded media you can't turn off? From floating advert heads to a juvenile cousin with a MySpace page, the ability of anyone who knows a little HTML to hold your browser hostage is a terrible power for them to wield.

Of course you could always install FlashBlock or NoScript. They aren't bad at all. But I don't feel like setting up and maintaining whitelists. Maybe you don't either. If so this is for you.

YouTube and Vimeo are excluded domains. I assume if you're at their sites you already expect to play media. If you desire a Flash killswitch there too, simply remove the //@exclude entries at the top of the script.

This script generally plays nice with flash games and apps. When those elements have focus they capture the keystrokes so there's no conflict.

NoVuzela remembers nothing, so just reload the page to see/hear the media items again.
